GSM

Grams per square metre — the weight-based specification of a tufted or handloom rug.

GSM is measured as pile weight ÷ face area, typically ranging 1200–2400+ for handmade goods. Higher GSM = denser pile = better crush recovery = higher price. Common quality names correspond to GSM: e.g. FLW 2000, PATCH 2200, PLAID 2400 for hand-tufted, KHADI 1750 for flatweave. See [[hand-tufted]], [[handloom]], [[flatweave]].
