Silk types we manufacture

Pure mulberry silk

Long-staple, high-lustre continuous filament. The luxury benchmark for hand-knotted silk rugs — takes fine detail at high knot counts and shows depth of sheen under directional light.

Best for
Heirloom hand-knotted pieces at the top of the KPSI range.

Bamboo silk

Regenerated cellulose fibre with a bright silky sheen at a fraction of mulberry silk's cost. Excellent dye uptake.

Best for
Modern luxury retail and designer programs where sheen matters and price sensitivity is real.

Silk-wool blend

Silk highlights over a wool ground. Durability of wool with the surface interest of silk — the practical hospitality choice.

Best for
Contract and residential where silk shine is wanted underfoot without silk's care requirements.

Knot density — 80 to 150 KPSI

Every one of our silk rugs is hand-knotted at 80–150 knots per square inch. Higher KPSI = finer detail, thinner pile, higher price. Cross-link: [/glossary/knot-density](/glossary/knot-density).

Frequently asked questions

How much does a handmade silk rug from India cost?
Handmade silk rugs from India start around USD 15 per square foot, rising with knot density (up to 150 KPSI) and design complexity. Send us a spec and we'll quote precisely.
How long does a custom silk rug take to make?
A fine silk piece such as an 8 × 10 ft rug takes 35–100 days depending on design detail and weave, sampling included. Larger or higher-KPSI pieces sit at the upper end of that window.
What is your minimum order for silk rugs?
One piece. Single-piece MOQ across pure mulberry, bamboo silk and silk-wool blends.
What knot densities do you weave in silk?
80 to 150 KPSI. See the knot-density guide above for detail character at each band.
Do you make bamboo silk rugs?
Yes — bamboo silk is one of our three silk programmes alongside pure mulberry and silk-wool blends.
Do you supply silk rugs for hotels?
Yes — silk-wool blends are the usual hospitality specification; see /hotel-rug-manufacturer.
How do I care for a silk rug?
Vacuum with a suction-only head (no beater bar), rotate quarterly, professional cleaning only. Full care guide: [read the silk care post](/post/the-art-of-preservation-essential-care-for-your-handmade-silk-carpet).
